I've already started working on my new issue of my zine.

If I owe you a copy of my last issue (The Greatest of Heights #1) let me know. I have a bad habit of forgetting these kind of things.

color and design midterm

somehow, midterms encroached upon me without notice. i worked for 14 hours on my color and design midterm project today. i'm really pleased with the turnout so far, although i am not completely done. i took step-by-step photos 'cus i'm a huge nerd like that.

this is a self-portrait color study we did. basically, we have to create different values of color using only 2 complementary colors. a few weeks ago, we had to bring in a bunch of different self-portaits, then we had to pick one and do two roughs: one with cool lighting, the other with warm lighting. we had a critique in class, and no one could guess what colors i used (brilliant yellow and ultramarine). everyone agreed the warm lighting look best, so here it goes:

i should probably mention that we had to do a major feature in grayscale.. so that's why there is a square that isn't painted.

it's so annoying to stare at a photo of yourself for that long, lemme tell ya! i also noticed after i cleaned out my paint pallette that i did a crappy job of painting the darkest color, so i need to re-mix/fix that.

I NEED YOUR OPINION. see that line under my bottom lip? does it look okay? my teacher said i needed to make my lips pop more.. but i wasn't sure how. and every time i look at it, all i can think is CHOLAAAAA (a female mexican 'gangster'). should i keep it, or fix that as well?

i finally have wifi in my apartment! this could possibly mean that i'll be posting on here more. i was wondering, do any of you use blogspot? i have a blog over there, and am considering just sticking with that instead of livejournal. i'm unsure though. i hope to keep in contact with my friends a bit better now that i have wifi (nina, this means you!) this weekend the zine fest is coming up.. i'm trying to find someone to go with me since taylor is working (and she's the only one i imagine being even remotely interested). i also have a interview tomorrow at lush.. i'm kind of nervous since their way of interviewing is to put you on the floor right away to see how you work. i'm pretty good in a retail environment.. i'm just nervous to not get the job ('cus i need one so bad right now).

i'm super stoked for school to start. i've been thinking a lot about tattoos. i want a half sleeve on my right arm, but i'm kind of confused as to how to "start" a sleeve. do i get the entire design outline done in a few sittings, or do i gradually add pieces over the years? hm. i know for sure i want to incorporate starry night into it. i even considered having my entire sleeve be the painting.. but i just don't know if i could ever afford that.

finally have a bed, and a desk. this means i can finally get back to my hobbies, and doing things i love.

i'm about halfway through my zine, and although i have enough stuff to fill the rest of it.. i am curious to know what your favorite things are to read in zines (or magazines/newspapers for those of you not into zines)? i always wonder..

SO..

last night i made a vlog in response to some questions from theexits. i've been trying to upload it since then, and no luck. i compressed the file down to 250mb, and finally was able to upload it on vimeo. except now, my voice is off from the video. (THAT IS SUCH A HUGE PET PEEVE OF MINE!)

any clue on how to fix this?

my cat is the best. even though lately he eats my posters that i have on the bottom of my door in attempt to wake me, he is still my favorite. thursday night, i accidentally left him in the garage though!$@# i guess he peed and pooped everywhere, according to my mom. : / MY BAD. but yeah, once he came in he was being so damn cute.

usually when i am on the computer, he comes and sits on the arm of the chair and like, chills with me. but i guess he was tired yesterday so he made himself comfortable in the spot between me and the back of the chair. after i got up and left, he didn't even move.

then i started petting him and left for a bit. i came back and...

then after a few loads of laundry and cleaning my desk, he had moved to my mom's room..

i think sometimes you need to stop focusing on yourself so much. take a step back and look around. ask the person next to you how they're doing.
